Alison Shaw

Governor

Overview

Alison joined the Board in July 2019.

She is an experienced secondary headteacher with over 30 years in the state secondary education system, 20 of which were in senior leadership posts in schools in North Tyneside.

She has a track-record of curriculum innovation and collaborative effort to bring education and employers together to benefit both young people and the wider economy. Alison is presently the David Goldman Visiting Professor of Innovation and Enterprise at Newcastle University Business School.

She is a founder of North East Futures UTC whose aims are to help young people gain the correct skills and qualifications to thrive in industry and help to grow the North East economy. Alison holds a number of professional roles including Vice-President of the National Foundation for Educational Research, Chair of Helix Arts, Director of The Common Room of the Great North and a Member of the Dynamo North East Advisory Board. Alison is keenly aware of the challenges facing the FE sector and understands how critically important FE is to our region.
